Ride to the quail by Brian Schimke/ TPJ Customs

So there are 2 shows in Monterey area on the same day, the quail motorcycle gathering at the quail lodge country club and the great cole fosters show in salinas. So Satya and I decide to meet up in San Fran and eat some lunch and head out down the coast.Well there’s only one bike that needs to go to the city, the supermoto buell of course. So I pack up a bag and fill the little gas tank up and head out. I left a little early so I had time to tear ass around the hills of SF on this sweet beast.

I start off heading thru the delta area jumping potholes and passing all the cages on wheels then Thru the hills of berkeley and then over the bay Bridge to the life size race track called San Francisco.

After a short stop at my favorite spot fir supplies. I get a call from Satya saying battery died about 30 mins from city so I got even more time to fuck off. Up hills like they are hill climbs jumping the roads at the top as they were table tops and hitting every corner with foot out slides. What a great city. I head towards golden gate for a break at the beach below the bridge.

Well they are up and going so I jump back on and start ripping the hills thru the presidio to haight street. Well mr police man didn’t like the speed is was rolling  and the fact that I didn’t stop at any stop sign they out the park so he lit me up for the 3rd time in a week on this bike.  He said it took him a mile to catch up well I guess I should have gone faster.

I hook up with Satya and his brother at a spot they like to eat at in the city. We plan our attack on the coast and we are off. Roll thru Pacifica and half moon bay on the way to Santa Cruz. Highway 1 to Santa Cruz is a great motorcycle road. Great views and really great curves.

When arriving in Santa Cruz we stopped at the great seat makers house OB who just happens to live 2 blocks from beach so I guess we are home for the night. After some grub and some drinks we came back to crash for the morning.

Ok so 2 shows in the same day well we got about 1 hr to get to hotel and get to the quail and we are about an hour away so we drop the hammer and make it in 45 mins lucky we were right at shift change time for the cops so we got lucky but we made it with no troubles.

The quail lodge is one of the fanciest and most up scale places I have been to. They transform there driving range into a motorcycle museum for this Saturday every year. Some of the bikes here are from 1918 and cost up to $250000.  We quickly found our friend Jim from AFT customs and checked out his new ride.  Saw a few other friends we only see at these events. I met with the guys at motorcycle.com and did a quick interview with the supermoto buell, it seemed to be a hit with the sportbike crowd. As the interview drew to close I feel a bike bearing down on me out of control, well it wasn’t just anybody it was my good friend dirty Dave and his orange rocketship always good to see him. So we finish checking out all the cool bikes and it’s off to salinas

It’s about 30 miles away, and we picked up a few extra riders so its basically a free for all to Coles show.
Now Coles show is a group of bike and car builders that have a great eye for style. The first thing I see is a 70s BMW that is Coles. Well this thing is fuckin sweet, just like everything he touches. When I began building bikes cole was the only guy I looked up to. Everything he builds is so clean and the lines are perfect. There are so many cool bikes and cars at the salinas fair grounds, to bad we missed the flat track races sounded cool.

After the show everyone rolled over to the salinas bowling alley for Coles after party. After the party my crew still wants to go out and cause trouble. After a few minutes of talking me away from the hotel room like they would talk someone off a ledge we went to cannery row. Well a bunch of drinks later there was 9 of us in a extended cab pickup rolling to Denny’s. Good times. Well after Denny’s you need to find a toilet quick cause it’s coming out one end or the other.

Well we wake up Sunday all the fun is over and we have separate ways home so we say our goodbyes and I’m off thru the hills of holster to the shithole I call home. I pick up a guy on a Harley for the highspeed turns down to split pea andersons for some gas.  I need to make one more stop for some wonderful dorrito tacos at taco bell. Between that and offroad ride thru vineyards on the way home the rest of trip was great. Well got to see my friends ride some great roads and see some awesome bikes. What a fuckin weekend.
