It's obvious Harley wants to market towards a younger crowd but dont they realize 10 year olds can't afford their products.

I'd also guess that most bikers wouldn't consider their Harley a toy!

after years of using a newer belt sander, you know the ones that stop spinning when you touch it with your thumb, I went and got a nice old hammond belt grinder that will surley leave me with nubs for hands

@KustomJeffDailey In today's reality, marketing is survival. While H-D was making it huge on the backs of the Baby Boomers, every stock analyst in the world was worrying about their aging demographic. Ironically, if you were immortal with H-D, they'd never need to change, but since we're not, they need to market to younger people and keep them happy so the brand lives on. Otherwise it dies when the "real bikers" die.

I have wanted this albeit LARGE accessory for over 35 years. Last winter, I could hold off no longer. After quite a bit of shopping, I negotiated a fair price for a used Bridgeport Series 1 variable speed vertical mill. It turned out that the unit was well used. It required a rebuild which took 6 months to complete. The hacksaw and file are now relegated to a back of the tool chest position.

@steveb I've met one of the new bigwigs from HD right before I left the dealership and I was not impressed. He said the right things, but I saw no conviction in his eyes when he was saying it. I agree that the majority of the folks at HD do have their hearts in the right places, the marketing and top management people do not strike me as being of that frame of mind.

@KustomJeffDailey I hear you Jeff, but I am fortunate in that I have met and have gotten to know and like the people that work at H-D - and wouldnt ya know they are some of the nicest smartest, most passionate motorcycle enthusiasts you'll ever meet - and they know they are custodians of the brand and they are the folks in charge of leveraging it's heritage..... it's a balancing act of new vs. heritage. But in reality It's a big brand and alot of people have a hand in it's "persona" so, it's hard to know who to poke in the side with this... I don't begrudge them any successes and if this is what it takes for a brand like H-D to succeed, so be it

Steve, people like us take the bikes as an extension of ourselves very seriously. Unfortunately the newer corporate types at HD think of it as a product and nothing more. For them this is about "product placement". The marketing wienies are in charge, the Bikers are not. They hope the kids will see all of this and raise hell enough for Daddy to take them to a dealer then the sales guys can get ahold of the poor schmuck and put his ass on a bike. It doesn't matter what we think, all they see are sales numbers and how to increase them.

I don't understand why H-D is producing this type of marketing promotion. In my mind this type of trivial nonsensical co-branding dilutes the core values of what H-D is about... for ME anyway. I take the brand seriously and have invested in the product my entire adult life, and this type of program shows that one of us (H-D or me) is out of step and/or touch with the other...granted I might own part of the equation too....

Next time you’re at a rally and can take a Victory test ride, I strongly suggest it. I test rode the Vision the first year they were available to ride during the Sturgis Rally. I was impressed from the first ride and have had several opportunities to ride Victory’s since then.

Last summer I had the opportunity to purchase a Vegas for my wife so she had a reliable motorcycle when we took a road trip from South Dakota to Texas and back. I outfitted it with Givi luggage and a Klock Werks Flare windshield. She fell in love with the comfort and power of the Victory and I would have a hard time taking it away from her.

When the Vision came out the style of the motorcycle was a shock to most people. It certainly had a very out of this world look to it. But I firmly believe Victory did that knowing full well they would be making a statement in the world of touring motorcycles. Which they did and when they had the motorcycle world's attention they came out with the Cross Country and the Cross Roads which appeal to the everyman. They are both decidedly different than the Vision and yet recognizable as Victory. They are certainly focused towards traditional American motorcycle styling.

Victory's current campaign slogan is "Ride one and you'll own one." There is a lot of truth to it, if you don't have any bias towards motorcycle brands and truly enjoy motorcycling for the experience, a Victory motorcycle is a solid option for any rider.

The beauty of being motorcycle enthusiast is that we are blessed with a world of options. I think Forest Gump had it wrong. “Life is like a box of chocolates, TASTE THEM ALL!”

Yeah, well it's amazing when you get a little mileage behind you and you take just a moment to look in the rear view and see more than just things done and accomplished, but you see things missed, run over, smashed and avoided... With that knowledge you can improve your course of action and trajectory moving forward or just make the same mistakes and moves over and over again...........In most of my friends I've seen a tipping point - when they realize they are not bulletproof, time is finite, they haven't gotten done what they set out to and well, time is a wastin'..... it seems once they've reached this point (and age has little to do with it) things smooth out, get better and life "mellows", allowing it to be enjoyed at a less than frenetic, but far more focused and applied pace.... Thats when things tend to get "serious".
